MICRO-TOOLS

A calculator or product finder that makes your website sell

What does a new electrical panel cost? Which coffee machine is right for me? A micro-tool, such as a cost calculator or a product finder, answers questions like these right on your own site and sends the inquiry to you. I build it around what you offer and who your clients are.

The micro-tool finder on this page is a micro-tool too, so go ahead and try it. Nearly all the examples further down are live too.

WHY A MICRO-TOOL

How a micro-tool brings in inquiries

A micro-tool works out a price or helps your visitor choose, right at the moment they hesitate.

01
The question

Your visitor has a question

Does this fit my situation? Do I qualify? If they can't find the answer on your site, they click away.

02
The answer

The tool answers right away

Your visitor fills in a few fields and gets a personal answer on the spot. They'd wait days for a quote; this answer arrives within half a minute.

03
The inquiry

Your visitor sends an inquiry

Someone who just got an answer is open to a next step. That's why the tool offers only one: an inquiry that goes straight to you.

TYPES OF TOOLS

Four kinds of micro-tools

Which form fits depends on the question your clients have on their minds. These are the four I build most often.

Calculator

Your visitor works out what something costs or what it brings in, and sees right away whether it's worth it.

Product finder

After a few questions, your visitor knows which product or package suits their situation.

Checker or scan

Shows where someone stands right now, for example with a website score or a self-test. For your visitor, that's a small first step.

Comparison tool

Puts options side by side based on hard data, so your visitor makes the choice on your site and not at a competitor's.

HOW I WORK

How I build a micro-tool

I start with what your clients already ask. What do they ask you on the phone? Where do they drop off on your site? I pin down that question with you, because that's where you find the tool that pays off.

Then I build the tool. I work out the logic and check every answer it can give, because a calculation error costs you exactly the trust the tool was meant to build.

For a long time, a tool like this was only for large companies with large budgets. Now most micro-tools cost between €500 and €3,000, depending on what the tool needs to do. It can run on your existing website, or go straight into a new site.

WHAT YOU MIGHT STILL WANT TO KNOW

Frequently asked questions

A small piece of software on your website with one job: calculating, choosing, checking or comparing. Your visitor fills in a few things and gets a personal answer right away. If you want to go deeper, read the article on micro-tools on your website.

Most micro-tools cost between €500 and €3,000, depending on how much the tool needs to do. A simple calculator is closer to €500, a product finder with lots of steps and logic closer to €3,000. You get a proposal with a fixed price up front.

Usually, yes. A micro-tool can sit on your current site as a separate component, or run on its own page that your site links to. If I also build your website, I design the tool right into it.

A first working version is usually up within a few days. After that, I fine-tune it based on what visitors do with it.

Ask yourself one question: what do your clients want to know before they get in touch? If that question can be answered with a calculation, a choice or a check, a tool fits. Still unsure? The article on utility marketing shows how businesses put this to use.
