FREE KEYWORD RANK CHECKER

Keyword rank checker: where does your site rank?

Enter your website and the keyword rank checker finds up to 10 search terms that fit what you offer. That way you check your rankings in Google without making a list first. For each term you see how often people in the United States search for it and whether you're already on page 1. Your plan per search term, with your exact position and the first step, arrives in your inbox for free.

HOW TO READ THE RESULTS

What the results show for each search term

At the top, one sentence tells you how visible your site is. The bar below it shows how often people search for your terms each month, and for what share of those searches you're on page 1. That share is colored lime; the rest of those searches currently go to other sites.

Next comes your biggest opportunity: the search term just off page 1 with the most search volume. If you have no terms just off page 1, it's the biggest search term you're not in the top 30 for yet. With that opportunity you read what you can do about it right now. Below that block, all your search terms are sorted into three groups; what each group means is in the blocks next to this explanation.

Want to know first how often people search for one particular term? Look it up with the keyword research tool.

  • Just off page 1

You're in positions 11 to 30. Google finds you relevant, but almost nobody clicks through to page 2 or 3. This is usually the quickest win.

  • Not found in the top 30

You're beyond position 30, or the search data doesn't show your site for this term. That second case is only an estimate: sometimes you do show up in Google. Often what's missing is a page dedicated to this topic.

  • Already on page 1

You're in the top 10. This search term already brings you visitors.

FAQ about the keyword rank checker

The check reads your homepage to work out what you offer, and finds up to 10 search terms that fit. At the top, one sentence tells you how visible you are and which search term is your biggest opportunity. Below that, the terms are sorted into three groups: already on page 1, just off page 1 (positions 11 to 30) and not in the top 30. For each term you see how often people search for it per month.

Your ranking is the position where your site shows up in the search results for one search term. It differs per term: for one you're in position 4, for another in position 40. Googling yourself gives a skewed picture, because Google takes your search history and your location into account. The keyword rank checker looks at Google in the United States without your search history. Your exact position for each search term is in the plan I email you for free.

Often there's no page about the search term you want to be found for. If your site is new, Google barely knows it yet. And if other sites give a more thorough answer, they rank higher and your page drops back. Sometimes a page is set to noindex by accident: with that setting you ask Google not to show the page. The keyword rank checker shows which search terms you're not in the top 30 for yet. To see whether Google can read your pages properly on the technical side, use the free SEO checker.

Start with the search terms just off page 1. Google already finds your site relevant for those terms, so that's usually where a better page pays off first. Make the page Google shows for such a term more thorough, and answer the questions someone has when they search for it. If you don't show up for a term at all yet, you usually need a page of its own about that topic first. How fast you climb also depends on how strong the other sites are, so nobody can promise you a position in Google. Want to know where the quickest wins are for your site? Request a free Quick Scan.

AI reads the text on your homepage and works out which services or products you offer. The selection includes search terms your site already ranks for in Google, if they fit what you offer, and terms a customer might type in to find a business like yours. If you work locally, terms with your city are added too. Your brand name doesn't count.

They're estimates for Google in the United States, not exact measurements. They work well for comparing terms with each other. To see how often people really find and click your site, check your own Google Search Console, Google's free reporting tool.

On screen you see for each search term whether you're already on page 1, just off page 1 (positions 11 to 30) or beyond position 30. Your plan per search term, which I email you for free, has your exact position, the page of your site Google shows for it and what to tackle first.

Then your homepage has too little text about what you offer, or the check can't read your site. Try again with just the address of your homepage, without something like /contact after it. If that still doesn't work, request a free Quick Scan and I'll look at it myself.
