THE BRIEF

A site for someone with a leaking roof

DakMeesters is a roofing company in Haarlem with more than 20 years of experience. It handles complete roof renovations, emergency repairs and zinc work, and it can be reached 24/7.

Someone looking for a roofer is often in a hurry, for example because of a leak or storm damage. They want to see at a glance that they've found a solid company. That's why I chose strong colors and short, clear copy. I always take that approach on websites for construction companies, because a visitor in a hurry decides within a few seconds whether to call.

There was one more requirement: two languages. DakMeesters also has English-speaking clients in the Haarlem area.

THE APPROACH

Four design choices

Navy as the base, red for emergencies

The base is a deep navy, red is for everything that has to do with emergencies, and I use amber for whatever needs to stand out. Red catches the eye most, and that's what you want on an emergency button.

Numbers and services on glass cards

The numbers and services sit on semi-transparent cards, as if you're looking through frosted glass. That gives the page depth, and the text stays easy to read.

Dutch and English

All the copy, the menu and the forms are translated. The button for switching languages sits right at the top of the site, so an English-speaking visitor doesn't have to look for it.

Motion as you scroll

As you scroll down, the numbers count up to 20+ years, 500+ projects and a 5.0 on Google. Small movements, like elements that float gently or ease into view, keep the page lively.

Need a website for your roofing or construction company too?

I design and build the site myself. A client in a hurry sees right away what you do and how to reach you, and the site is structured so Google can understand it.
